Magma Art & Congresses, work from the local architects studio AMP formed by Fernando Menis, Felipe Artengo and Jose María Rodríguez-Pastrana. Plans began back in 1998, and seven years later, in 2005 it was completed, thanks to the efforts of each and every person who participated in the project. A few months later, in November 2005, Their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain opened the brand-new building. 

In the year 2006, AMP architects were awarded the prize “Manuel de Oraá y Arocha” for the project of Magma Art & Congresses. This award is given once each two years by the Architects Association of the Canary Islands to the best buildings finished in the previous last years before the award.
The Magma organization underwent some changes during the building work. This evolution was also marked by the close collaboration between the many teams involved, because their commitment in the creative process from the very start has guaranteed coordination in the comings and goings of the different parts, thus achieving an organic, whole result.

One of the biggest changes that were made at the start of the project was altering the concept of space, which was initially based on walls that subdivided the whole space. Later, when building had commenced, these walls evolved into closed modules. The roof design was also changed since it was originally designed with unequal concave and convex shapes, and was adapted during the building works to a new idea, thus improving the acoustics. 

As a result of the changes that were made, the building was transformed from a simple conference centre into a building that would be able to host a diverse range of cultural activities, providing South Tenerife with the cultural facilities that it had lacked hitherto.
